“Juxtaposed” Opening Reception

Arts Council of the Valley (ACV) celebrates the opening of a new exhibition, “Juxtaposed,” at Smith House Galleries on June 7, with a reception 5-7pm during First Fridays of the Valley. “Juxtaposed” features watercolor paintings by Brenda Hounshell. Join us for the opening reception, sponsored by Violet and Michael Allain, and enjoy a chat with the artist, light refreshments, and live music by Dr. Diane Phoenix-Neal and Sunny Robertello!

Brenda Hounshell, who began painting with watercolors in 2010, has returned to the studio after completing a career in Customer Relations in the printing and auto industries. Hounshell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art from James Madison University, where she concentrated in Drawing and Design. In Juxtaposed, Hounshell harnesses a particularly challenging medium to explore color association and contrast, sharing palette-based vignettes among thoughtful groupings of tree subjects, glass objects, and abstract images.

Juxtaposed runs through June 28, with in-person visits Monday-Friday, 11am to 4pm (closed June 19). The galleries will also be open Second Saturday June 8, 10am to 2pm, AND during Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance’s Best.Weekend.Ever. June 15, noon to 6 pm. The exhibition will also be available online (valleyarts.org/current-exhibition) in early June.
