This small town sits in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, about two hours from Washington, D.C. It’s full of charm, family adventures, and plenty of ways to have fun without stretching your budget.
Harrisonburg is known for James Madison University, but the town offers so much more. You’ll find hands-on children’s museums, creative scavenger hunts, peaceful botanical gardens, and outdoor adventures that bring families together.
If you want to cool off with the kids, check out the new splash park at Ralph Sampson Park. It’s a great place to beat the heat and have fun without spending a dime.
We spent four days exploring everything Harrisonburg has to offer. This guide covers the activities, attractions, and special moments that made our trip one to remember. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teens, or both, this small town offers something for everyone.

It’s also a great place to freshen up, use the restroom, and grab a quick bite before you start your adventure.

We stayed in the cozy Sugar Maple Suite in the Main House, a comfortable two-bedroom space perfect for a family of five.
