Artist and creative professional William Snyder III will launch his new book, Creative Endurance, at Arts Council of the Valley’s Smith House Galleries (311 S Main St, Harrisonburg) Tuesday, May 26, 6-8 pm. Open to the public, the launch event will include a short reading, conversation, refreshments, and book signing.
“This book is about what it actually costs to keep making work as an artist,” Snyder explained. “Not the romantic cost. Not the abstract cost. The real one—measured in time, money, safety, exhaustion, and repeated decisions to take risks long before anyone agrees they are reasonable.”
That reality sits at the center of Creative Endurance, Snyder said.
Structured as a series of 14 short stories, the book moves through specific projects and moments drawn from Snyder’s career—each one reflecting a different facet of building and sustaining a creative life over time. From early, uncertain work to larger public installations, these stories offer a grounded look at the decisions, risks, and realities behind the finished pieces.
