Event Details

This year’s Deyerle Series on Local History and Culture will celebrate VA250 with a focus on the Shenandoah Valley.

In the fifth lecture of the series, Nick Powers, Curator of Collections at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, will discuss the museum’s new exhibit, Revolutionary Valley. Far across the Blue Ridge Mountains from the famous battlefields at Yorktown, the Shenandoah Valley is often overlooked when considering the American Revolution and its ongoing legacy. But from the colonial period through today, the Valley region has been and continues to be a place of revolutionary thought, action, and consequence. The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley’s new landmark exhibition, Revolutionary Valley, explores that impact. This lecture will expand upon some of the exhibition’s key themes, stories, and objects, spanning the Revolutionary period through to the social, political, and civil rights movements that echoed across centuries.
